About Mental Health:
Our aim at Kelvale is to help you manage your mental health condition and have strategies in place to maintain good mental health.
Good mental health is a sense of wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem, which enables us to fully enjoy and appreciate other people, day-to-day life and our environment.
At Kelvale we know that life can have its ups and downs - 21st century living has become very fast paced and stressful.
We understand what it is like to feel low in mood, anxious, stressed and overwhelmed - WE ARE HERE TO HELP YOU.
It is estimated that 45% of people in Australia will experience a mental health condition at sometime in their life.
On average 1 in 6 people will suffer depression and 1 in 4 will suffer from anxiety, some also will have panic attacks. These conditions can not only affect adults but also children and adolescents.
Mental Health Services:
All of our doctors have undertaken additional training in Mental health and are accredited to do mental health assessments and mental health plans.
The doctor will assess your symptoms and with you make a plan of action for your treatment.
This may include:
- Referral to a psychologist (10 sessions per year with Medicare rebate)
- Medication treatment
- Referral to a specialist psychiatrist
It may also include referrals to other agencies who can help with aspects of your life that are contributing to your mental health problems, for example:
- Centrelink
- Social worker
- Legal advisory services
- Relationship guidance counsellors
- Bereavement counsellors
Kelvale doctors will work together with you to make a Mental Health Care Plan.
Bookings:
Mental Health consultations are provided Mon to Fri - 7.30am to 7pm.
Your first mental health appointment will take one hour. The first 45 minutes may be conducted by a nurse with training in mental health.
This will be followed by a consultation with your doctor.
